My graduation thesis, ‘The Power of Mapping,’ (De kracht van Mapping) completed in 2017, is a study on mapping as an artistic tool in a social context. The research includes several datavisualization-based projects that contribute to the social public debate or address relevant social themes. While some case studies are highly artistic, others are more static and traditional.
I aimed to make the research visually appealing, with an interesting design. I took lot of space for the case study images located at the back of each chapter. These pages can be unfolded into large pages to allow for a closer examination of maps and images. The book contains six different tables of content to demonstrate the various ways to design data.
